Life requires that we show up for events, and for anyone new in recovery this may cause anxiety and possible triggers. Having support and encouragement through potentially triggering and stressful events helps your loved one to utilize new coping skills in real time and reduces the risk of relapse.
Be Prepared and Enjoy the Moment
There is a lot of planning that goes into preparing families and their loved ones to participate in any event. This service also provides families relief with not having to monitor their loved one during these times. It is extremely important for everyone in the family to be able to stay focused and be in the moment. Companions work closely with families to alleviate the stress sometimes created by these events and provide the safest possible outcome for your loved one.
Unlike a recovery coach, a sober companion is available 24/7 through a variety of channels including but not limited to: in-person meetups, e-mail, video chatting, texting, as well as living with the individual in recovery if needed. Whereas a coach might be available for an hour, a companion can make themselves available for the day. They are on-call for around-the-clock care that can look like accompanying the client during business travel or for transition from a treatment center.
A sober companion will encourage your loved one to make healthy choices throughout the day that will aid their recovery with an extra layer of support and encouragement. Sober companions can assist in various ways, including sober transport, helping with everyday tasks that may be challenging in early sobriety such as cleaning, grocery shopping, and attending treatment or recovery meetings, to name a few. They work with the client to design an effective-yet-gentle plan to build up courage, confidence, and clarity in tackling everyday practical tasks. Sober companions are a wonderful investment in recovery, walking by the client's side and providing the stepping stone that your loved one might need in early sobriety to take the next step.
Our sober companions are flexible and ready to assist you, whether you're based in Fairfield County, New Haven, Monroe, Norwalk, CT or any of New York City's five boroughs. No matter how big or little the situation, our companions will be in your corner-whether literally or in your pocket-to alleviate anxiety around potentially triggering situations and people. We know how treacherous early sobriety can feel and we want to make it feel less so with effective strategies for sober living.
